WANDERLAND

A Travel App for Immersed Culture Experience

Individual project: UI/UX, AR, Tourism, Gamification

Overview

WANDERLAND is a travel app that provides tourists a unique walk tour that is made up of attractions that truly represent the city vibe instead of cliche and popular ones. You can find AR challenges with the app along the route and get awards by accomplishing them. The app also provides AR navigation service and tour guide. After finishing the whole route, you get a coupon for a designated cafe near destination and a customized postcard that directly goes to your home.

How AR is reshaping tourism?

According to a latest report, by 2021, there will be an estimated   1.96 billion   mobile AR users worldwide. And by 2023, the number is estimated to grow to   2.4 billion   mobile AR users worldwide.

Questionnaire

I collected 100 questionnaires among which 69 has been to Hengfu Culture Zone.  I analyzed their opinions and suggestions about their visit to that area to get effective guidance on the city walk route design.

The NAVIGATION section provides AR navigation.

The ADVENTURE section displays the AR challenges in the attraction by means of real-time video. 

It is fun to interact with objects in the room.

The USER section shows the basic information of the user. It also gives users coupons so that he/she can have a rest in a cafe after completion of the adventure. 

Reflection

There are some takeaways on my work on this tourism project, as shown below: 

  • I got more familiar with the design process

  • More usability test can be done

  • Consider a scenario with multiple travelers where they can cooperate in challenges

  • Have a more detailed design of postcard

  • Provide same breakfast set as Madam Soong in the designated cafe/restaurant 

I am quite happy with my progress. I hope that I can be even better in my next project
